Au.D.
The University of Minnesota's Graduate School offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences which is a part of the College of Liberal Arts. Program requirements for degrees are specified both by the Graduate School and the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. Details of Graduate School requirements are provided in the Graduate School Catalog.
The purpose of the Au.D. program is to prepare clinical practitioners in the field of Audiology with a primary interest in the disorders of hearing and balance, their diagnosis, and treatment. Audiology students will be taught to implement evidence-based practice with their clients/patients, who demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply current and future findings in the field, and who have excellent analytic and communication skills. Graduates of the Au.D. program will receive a combination of intensive academic and clinical education as a result of coursework, laboratory experiences, and patient/client contact. In addition graduates will qualify for clinical certification in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the primary professional organization for the field of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. Graduates will also be eligible for licensure in Audiology in Minnesota and other states. Typically, clinical certification is the basis for qualifying for licensure in most states.
